A new leaf...

Truly, the new leaf is turned!!!! If you are wondering why I haven't posted an update regarding my quest for getting back in shape - - it's because I wanted to make sure my new lifestyle 'stuck'. Back in July (wow, 8months ago!), I started the 6week challenge at the Y and I haven't looked back for a moment. At the same time I enrolled in Weight Watchers to keep up the momentum and to combine better eating with the working out. I discontinued WW when we left VA since I felt like I could do it on my own (and b/c we only have 1 salary now!) Before we left Va, I had already achieved some great results and met my WW goal, but wanted to make sure that with our move and some big changes to our life, that I would still maintain the healthy eating & working out. So here we are, nearly 8 months later and I have lost 30 lbs and am holding steady. My diet has slacked off a bit, but I've made up my mind that as long as I'm working out at the same level that I can afford a few extra calories if I desire them on occasion. It's been so great to feel good about myself again - I hadn't realized how busyness and stress had affected me - I knew I could stand to lose several pounds, but would have never thought 30lbs was a realistic number. I'm truly enjoying working out and can't imagine it not being a part of my life. I'm excited that I've adjusted some of the ways I grocery shop and glad that I can influence my boys' habits now rather than later. The one & only downside to all this weight-loss is that I have very few things that fit me now - which would usually be a GREAT thing, but now that we've moved from 2 to 1 salaries, I don't have the same ability to just go buy a new wardrobe!! Oh well, just pardon my baggy britches!!!

On a 'break'...

Unfortunately, I have been forced to take a break from blogging. We've been having some computer issues for the last several months which made posting pictures and therefore blogging quite painful. We were struck by what we think to be the 'Vista' virus and struggled with getting rid of it. When we finally thought it was gone, it would propagate and show back up. Very frustrating. I was still spending some time on the virused laptop when we received some startling news last week - account of the virus, we became victims of identity theft. Someone purchased a very expensive laptop using our PayPal account (can you say $2700?). Ugh, anyway we feel certain we will be restored monetarily thru PayPal though we haven't received final word yet on that matter. At any rate, this has induced a fear of using 'that laptop' and therefore I have been relegated to naptime usage of my parents' computer and naturally I don't want to upload photos to their computer. We are 'shopping' for a new laptop (although ironically I technically own a very expensive new laptop!) so I can't wait to finally be back to 'normal' computer time, which obviously includes BLOGGING! Anyway, I'm trying to catch up a bit on reading some of your blogs!!!

Not too "scabby"

Carter took a tumble this weekend in Athens - he is now donning a sporty scabbed nose -but it is precious - he looks like Rudolph. It's so cute how he points to his scab saying 'no' for his nose... Oh, and Anderson couldn't resist a photo opp with his scabby brother....

BullDawg Country!

Last weekend we headed to Athens to spend some time with my brother and his wife Bree. Ahtens is the home of UGA -me & Mark's alma mater (who didn't know that already ; ) All over Athens they have painted bulldawgs which are 'themed'. It's neat to see - they didn't have them when I was in school....

While there we hooked up with one of my best friends from college who lives close to Athens. I'm ashamed to say I hadn't seen her since college (yikes, 10+ years ago). She has two young kids about the same age as my boys - so we picked right up where we left off, but in a different 'stage' of life. It was so great to reconnect and her son Banks & Anderson hit it off perfectly.

Anderson and his new buddy, Banks

Banks and Anderson getting tackled by Carter - what's wrong with this picture??

Banks has 2 UGA football uniforms - so he & Anderson donned them and played football - they had an absolute blast together! Here is me & Ashley- with big shadows across our face!
Bree made fondue for us on Saturday nite- it was DELICIOUS! We had a great time just hangin' with Ryan & Bree - we haven't been able to spend much time with them since we moved to VA outside of holidays, so it was great to get some quality time with them...

Carter was worn out after our trip!

Build a Friend....

Anderson had his very 1st field trip a few weeks ago - his class went to 'Build-A-Bear' at the mall and they were able to pick out a new friend. I'm not really sure what was educational about this trip, but whatever - Anderson enjoyed it! He picked out a bunny and named him Alex. I later realized that he picked the bunny because Carter sleeps with a bunny everynite. Alex is getting 'stuffed'...

Alex is getting his first bath and rub down

Meet Alex!

Adjusting....

Just for the records, I thought I would post some commentary on this new journey we're on....

*Living with my parents is going well - we fit in their home better than I anticipated. It's great having dinner be a team effort - either I make dinner & mom helps, or vice versa. It's so much easier to strategize dinner when it's not a daily effort. I know, I know - it won't be like this forever!

*Church: We had initially planned to plug right into Northpoint Community (Andy Stanley's church), but after going for several weeks we're unsure now. The church is awesome- the children's ministry is awesome and the music and message is always awesome, but it's SOOOO big that I just don't know if it fits us - I love going to church and knowing "that's where we sit" and I love knowing if someone is there or not - like an added layer of accountability.... The last 2 weeks we've gone to a church much closer to my parents home - Mark's sister actually lead worship there last week. We like it - so we'll see if the Lord wants us to stay there or lead us elsewhere....

*Anderson is doing well in his new preschool - the teachers say he is really well adjusted and fits in perfectly. He loves going to school and has been begging me to sign him up for Lunch Bunch (not gonna happen). We do the carpool line which feels very 'old' to me - like I've got a school aged child.

*Anderson is doing really well now - we are so thankful for our network of prayer warriors - I called and He answered thru your prayers! It was hours after I launched a prayer request to my dear praying friends that Anderson's heart completely changed! The power of prayer!

*Carter is adjusting well. He's starting to talk a bit which has been fun - he still signs quite a bit - offering a gamut of signs whenever he wants something! He is FINALLY starting to say Mommy, and once again that was after his vocabulary included DADDY (of course), Elmo, and the equivalent of Spiderman - Oh well, I know "mommy" will now get worn out!!!! We've been battling the winter cold season, but thank goodness his ears have been doing better since his 'tubage'.....

*I've joined a MOPS club at the church where Anderson goes to preschool - I'm enjoying the fellowship with other moms and Carter is enjoying his time 'playing'.

*I've started a Beth Moore bible study - Esther. It's my 1st Beth Moore - I knew I would love it - I can tell it will be the 1st of many more Beth Moores studies I will take. I love how on fire Beth Moore is for the Lord and I love how 'real' she is. We're only 2weeks in, but I'm devouring my homework desiring more!

*I'm hitting the gym about 4-5 times a week. I've really taken to step aerobics and am also trying out some new 'sculpting' classes. I'm quite un-toned (is that a word?) and am looking to get some definition & muscles! Our YMCA is really state of the art -it even has a rock wall in it! The boys love going to the gym so that makes it easier too!

*I'm enjoying my new role as full-time SAHM - though I miss some key friends from work, I am not missing the added stress work was bringing my way. I know my little men are enjoying me and I'm equally enjoying them.

*I've reconnected with some old friends in the area -I'm hoping some of those friendships will blossom again. It's really hard not having a network in place, but I'm certain the Lord will provide exactly the right friends for me!!! I feel a bit lonely, but know that friendships don't happen overnite....

*Mark is learning alot at his new job. December was a bit slow given the time of the year, but now he is busy busy busy. His commute is a bit rough, but we know it will get better when we settle somewhere.... Most lunches he goes to the gym. He has to leave at 6:30am to beat the ATL traffic.

*Not much to report on the home front - our home in Va Beach still hasn't sold. We're hopeful the spring will bring out the buyers! We went out for our 1st home search on Saturday just to scope out some areas & neighborhoods -it was fun and neat to see some potential 'stomping' grounds!

Anyway, that's the latest & greatest with us Judds - probably way more than you wanted to know, but it's for the record book!

Who needs training wheels?

For some reason Mark thought that Anderson was ready to lose the training wheels on his bike. I thought this was a bit pre-mature given he's only had his bike for a couple of months and he doesn't get to ride it much, but Mark thought he was ready.... Sure enough, Anderson proved me wrong - he did GREAT without training wheels. Sure, I'm quite nervous watching - but he hasn't fallen yet (though Mark has saved him a couple times). Check out the video!!! Go Anderson!

Building our 1st home together....

Santa brought Anderson some Lincoln Logs for Christmas. We usually can only play with them once Carter is in bed otherwise, we're constantly having to 'rebuild'. Anderson & I had a great time building 'Fort Redwood'! Anderson did such a great job and he was so proud of the finished product!

New Years 2008

Since 2001, we've spent every NewYears Eve with our friends, the O'Neills- save last year due to some lengthy travel concerns. We resumed our tradition this year with gusto and had a great time! Obviously our get together looks a bit different than our earlier years, but that's what adding 4 precious boys to the mix does! Their boys are just slightly older than ours - Evan is 4 1/2 and Drew is 20months. We had a blast & can't wait til next year!

Georgia Boy

Yesterday as I was trying to 'organize' - I realized I had one more present for Anderson that didn't make it under the tree. Lately Anderson has been giving us a tough time about 'winter' wear - saying that his winter hat is for babies - where did he get that from -I have no idea? Anyway, I thought a UGA hat would force less resistance .... SCORE!! I so love that I can find UGA wear anywhere & everywhere here - it's GREAT!

Christmas 2008

Christmas 2008 has come & gone! Here are some 'hi-lites' and other fun notables:
* Anderson set out "reindeer food" on Christmas Eve in addition to the cookies for Jolly ole' St Nick
*To no-one's surprise, Anderson arrived in our room at 5:20 - UGH! We held him off til 6ish....
*Anderson was utterly delighted with the Hulk Hands he sooo desperately wanted for Christmas
*Carter moved quickly to his new 'Cozy Coupe' car and spent most of the morning in his new vehicle!
*I set fire to my mom's oven while baking my monkey bread - didn't think to put a pan underneath the tube pan! Oh well -live & learn (all was salvaged & quite yummy!)
*On the road to Charlotte by 9:30am - Anderson sat in the car for 45minutes or so - just waiting for us to get ready - he was sooooo excited to get to Charlotte to hang with his cousins!
*Christmas with the Judds was fun, as usual. Anderson spent most of his time wrestling with Benjamin
*My mom's side of the family had a reunion in Charlotte too - we got to spend Friday evening with them and most of Saturday. It was great to see everyone - it doesn't happen too often. My grandparents Nana & Poppa were there making it extra special. This was their 1st time meeting Carter....
*Carter became feverish on Saturday and we had to cut our visit with my Mom's side a bit short to get home for early bedtimes, etc. He's still not doing too great.... tis the season, I think!

All & all we had a great Christmas! I'm always so glad to see this joyous season come, but always ready to get back to routine after the cheer has worn off a bit! Here's to a wonderful New Years!!!!

RaNdOm Christmas cHeEr!!!

RaNdOm Christmas cHeEr!!!

Yesterday Carter just sat in front of the Christmas tree and if he could speak he would have said 'take my picture please' - it was so funny - so of course, we obliged (with the barely dressed Rudolph)

Since yesterday was Rudolph day at school, Anderson decided he wanted to draw Rudolph. Before you get too excited - I drew Rudolph's body & antlers - but the face and name "Rudolph" are all courtesy of Anderson

Recently I've let Anderson start taking the occasional picture with my camera (what have I done?) - I thought this pic of the Christmas tree on his table at preschool turned out pretty good.....

At Anderson's Christmas party today we got to make Rudolph candy canes - here was our finished product 'tah-dah'!!!!

Look who I picked up from preschool today -I thought I was picking up Anderson - but instead this little red-nosed reindeer got in my car instead!!!!!

Dress up time!

For years I've lamented that I never get to 'dress-up' or go anywhere I get to put on a dress- - the companies that Mark & I have worked for have not had the traditional Christmas party but more laidback personal get-togethers. Enter Mark's new company - his company rolled out the red-carpet - they had a cocktail party complete with a 12 person cover band (including dancing singers) - it was neat to be able to 'dress-up'. Some friends know that Mark is a great dancer, and yep - he got to break out some moves last nite!!

!
all dressed up with somewhere to go!

Seeing Santa....

We were so excited to learn that Santa would be sneaking away from the crazy malls and would make himself available for a couple of hours at a local bank. It was a great way to see Santa -no line and Santa brought Mrs. Claus with him too - there were cookies and popcorn and lots of friendly elves nearby. Mommy hopes to see Santa here in future years too!

This was Anderson's 1st time approaching Santa without hesitation ... he was prepared with his 'wish list' - - Hulk Smash Hands and Lego Star Wars video game (hmm Katy, where did he get those ideas from? ; ) I've already had to educate Anderson that Santa is very aware of what Mommy & Daddy will allow him to give....

Carter was not interested (at all) in going to Santa - as long as I was holding him he was somewhat content, otherwise, very very afraid

A busy "hump" day

Anderson had another "1st" day of preschool as he started at a preschool local to my parent's in ATL- he goes 3 days a week - Wed, Thur & Friday from only 9-12. He just walked right on in yesterday kinda like -come on, Mom- I've done this before!! He was happy as a clam and made himself right at home though would not oblige me with a photo with his new teachers. Oh well! I'm excited because I'm going to get fed too - next week I'll start in with the same church's MOPS program, and then in January I'm seriously considering joining in a Beth Moore study - Esther. I know that Beth Moore studies can be pretty rigorous (not from personal experience) but from many friends & family - but I think the timing is right and I think my Va Beach buddies will be doing the same study too - so it would be neat to do it together (kinda!)....

From Anderson's 1st day of school, we zipped home to eat a quick bite, I layed Carter down for a few minutes, then we headed to the doctor's office for Anderson's 4 year check-up. As I suspected, he checked out great. He's still a peanut - 10%ile for height, 25%ile for weight but the doctor was pleased with his health. Lord, thank you for the health of my boys!!!!

After we got home for a moment I decided I wanted to go to a class at the YMCA - mind you I'm still in mourning over the fact that they don't have Zumba, but I thought I would try a step class. Wow- I felt really uncoordinated! I had the stamina for the class, but hopefully the coordination will come later - I was really having a hard time keeping up with all the new steps! Hopefully Next time I'll get the swing a bit more!

Carter & William - a friendship in the making!

My friend Caren & I scheduled our 1st playdate with our boys - Caren is a dear friend from college - we spent a summer abroad together in France. After college we were roomies and we were both bridesmaids in each other's weddings. One of my 1st things I was exciting about doing in ATL upon our return was a playdate with our little guys. She has a 13month old - William - he's about 4months or so younger than Carter - so I know they will become really good friends -just like their mommies! This was their 1st real playdate and it went pretty well!!!

Here's Carter trying to give William a hug...

Here's Caren with our little ones - William & Carter

I'm also excited that I introduced Caren to one of my favorite things - Chai Tea Lattes at Starbucks - and she liked it!!! Yeah, another friend corrupted!!!

an un-traditional Thanksgiving

Our last Thanksgiving in Va Beach started off at 6am - I headed downstairs and started whipping up my contributions to the day's feast - pumpkin pie, sweet potatoes & cranberry casserole, squash casserole. After I whipped those up, I proceeded to pack and clean non-stop until it was time to head to Paul & Rebekah's for Thanksgiving meal. The boys went on early to Paul & Rebekah's to have fun with family and also to give me and Mark some dedicated time to get the house in order. It's an interesting move when you only pack half of your home - - what's even more fun is making sure that the home still looks in 'showing' fashion. After stuffing ourselves with the feast, we got on the road. We stopped for the nite in Charlotte (thanks Brian & Monica) to rest and recharge, then drove the rest of the way to my parents' home in the ATL.

Here's the Judd caravan on Thanksgiving day - me & KatieBeth are driving (you can't see us), but there's Cathy driving the Infiniti, Scott driving their van, and Mark driving the good ole Penske! As you can see it was a great day for driving and the boys were great. (gotta love Kung Fu Panda!)

We were able to get settled in my parents home rather quickly, and suprisingly we're not as cramped as one would think! Anderson & Carter are sharing a room and that's going pretty well though we've had to do some major 'don't wake your brother' training in the mornings....

the boys "temporary" living situation

All in all, while it was a non-traditional turkey day, I was able to reflect during our drive about how thankful we are - for our health, our happiness, our friends & family - both near & far. The Lord has blessed us sooooo.....
