Carter @ 9 months

We had Carter's 9month well baby visit today. He did great and only had to get 2 shots & a finger prick. He weighed in at 20lb 3oz (50%ile) and 29.5in long (90%ile).... When we were going over the foods he can eat at what times, he told me no peanut butter or nuts of anykind til 3 years old (what???). I know other doctors in the practice do not necessarily subscribe to that - I think Anderson was allowed to have peanut butter after 1 year, though I think I waited til closer to 2yrs. Curious - what does your doctor say about peanut butter?

Can you imagine no PBJs until 3 years old - are you kidding me?

Carter thinking about PBJs.....
(really he is enjoying yogurt for one of the 1st times....)

What an adorable, healthy little man!

We went to the same pediatric practice as you while we were in VA, but our doc there said no peanut butter or honey until he was two. The doctors down here have never mentioned anything that we should avoid feeding Hannah - go figure!

No PB&J until 3?! I can't imagine! My boys live off the stuff. I waited a year for both of mine, but we have no food allergies of any kinds in our family. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. I find it interesting (and sometimes frustrating), that you can have doctors in the same practice who all say different things.

I believe our doctor says 2 years. Annelise gets almond butter. It is nutritious and she loves the stuff!

I think that with Ryan we were told to wait until they were 2 years old, but the pediatrician hasn't said anything in regards to peanut butter with Emily! She has had a little bit here and there and it hasn't seemed to affect her yet!!

Dr. Gerbus has always said no pb until they are 2 years old...Although Beth gave Jacob a pb cookie when he was 1 1/2 - maybe that's why he HATES pb now!! :)

Heather, that is SOO funny you wrote about this--I was just asking around a few weeks ago, too!! I had heard 3, and thought "that's crazy!" So I thought, we'll just find out if he does have an allergy....he's had loads of it since (Hamilton), and now he's happy, and I'm happy, too because we can make a quick lunch to keep us all insane! :) But, as Katy so lovingly scolded me, I also turned our car seats around too early too--just to keep everyone from screaming! :) he he!

I can't remeber if my doc had a PBJ rule...Hmmmm. Probably not, but mine don't love it anyway. Carter is too cute. I love his smile and chunky legs...

I've never heard something that crazy!! Grayson loved a thin layer of PB on crackers early on, and love loves his PB and honey!

Cody's doctor told me 2, so on his 2-year check-up I said, so he can have PB now right? The doctor told me that the day before they had changed the rule and that if a child is going to develop a peanut allergy, it's going to happen no matter when you start the PB. So Cody could have had it at 1. Man are we making up for it now. He loves that stuff!
